- Plant Maintenance Meter with Sweepless Sweep, optical power meter and visual fault locator
Overview
The VIAVI Trilithic 1G DSP with OPM/VFL Sweepless (part number TRI-DSP-1G-D31-VFL-SWPLS) is a plant maintenance meter in the DSP Series. It combines CATV measurements, a DOCSIS 3.1 cable modem, Gigabit Ethernet testing and optical testing in one instrument, with Sweepless Sweep functions, a built-in optical power meter (OPM) and a visual fault locator (VFL).
The 1G DSP performs throughput testing at speeds of up to a gigabit per second through a dedicated Ethernet test port or the internal cable modem. It supports roundtrip or one-way Key Parameter Index (KPI) measurements with constant payload testing for Layer 2 through Layer 4, for verification of Ethernet Service Level Agreement (SLA) and Quality of Service (QoS) metrics.
Sweepless Sweep
The Sweepless model includes Cable Modem Sweep, which uses the meter's built-in cable modem to perform in-band return sweeps within the modem carriers. The meter injects up to eight upstream modem carriers and uses the pre-equalized data from the CMTS to plot the upstream frequency response, without dedicated headend sweep gear; it works with any DOCSIS 3.0 or DOCSIS 3.1 compatible CMTS with pre-EQ enabled. On DOCSIS 3.1 equipped meters, Cable Modem Sweep with OFDMA tests the entire return band. Forward Passive Sweep uses the live carriers in the HFC distribution system to test and set the tilt and gain of distribution amplifiers.
Optical Power Meter and VFL
The optical hardware package adds a built-in FTTx-ready optical power meter for absolute and relative measurements at 1310 nm, 1490 nm and 1550 nm, with interchangeable FC, SC and ST style adapters. It also adds a 650 nm visual fault locator for finding loss points in patch cords, patch panels and enclosures.
Operation
The meter has an 800 x 480 pixel color touchscreen, pass/fail indicators and autotest apps. It also offers remote control through a web browser, a glow-in-the-dark keypad and support for up to five user profiles. Test results and instrument configurations can be synchronized with VIAVI StrataSync over Ethernet, DOCSIS or WiFi.
