Overview

The VIAVI E41CWDM8U is the CWDM8U version of the 4100 Series CWDM OTDR modules for the T-BERD/MTS test platforms. It covers 8 CWDM wavelengths from 1471 nm to 1611 nm, which lets cable operators, dark fiber providers and telecommunication service providers test through MUX/DEMUX and characterize or troubleshoot active C-RAN, DAS and mobile fronthaul CWDM networks end to end.

The module tests new CWDM wavelength routes and locates faults on in-service links without disrupting traffic on active channels. It detects traffic on the fiber automatically before testing. An integrated continuous wave light source works on the same wavelengths as the OTDR and has a modulation capability, so end-to-end continuity can be checked as well.

The module can be paired with the E41CWDM10L module (1271 to 1451 nm), which gives 18 CWDM wavelengths across two modules. It can also be used with the COSA-4055 CWDM spectrum analyzer module, which measures the wavelengths and power levels of active CWDM channels.

Software and analysis

The T-BERD/MTS platform offers automatic multitest configurations, a summary results table with pass/fail analysis and FastReport onboard report generation. The optional Smart Link Mapper (SLM) turns the OTDR trace into icons for splices, connectors and MUX/DEMUX elements, which makes the trace easier to interpret.
