Overview
The VIAVI COSA-4055 is a coarse wavelength division multiplexing (CWDM) optical spectrum analyzer module for the T-BERD/MTS-2000, T-BERD/MTS-4000 V2, T-BERD/MTS-5800 and OneAdvisor-800 platforms. It provides OSA functionality in a handheld form factor as a lower-cost alternative to a standard bench OSA, and is intended for installing, maintaining and upgrading metro/access links and CWDM systems.
The module measures the wavelengths and power levels of CWDM channels and displays the complete spectrum, with tabular power and wavelength results, zoom and marker functions. It supports the ITU-T G.694.2 CWDM wavelength grid as well as customized grids, and is used to check parameters such as transmitter output power, receiver input power and central wavelengths for multivendor compatibility according to ITU-T G.695.
Drift measurement
Because CWDM transmitter lasers are uncooled, temperature variations can shift central wavelength and power level. A built-in drift test application records power and wavelength over a user-defined time and presents the results in graphical and numerical form.
Ease of use
An Auto-Test mode identifies WDM channels, selects the appropriate wavelength range, and provides auto scaling and pass/fail qualification against pre-defined, user-settable limits. Statistical, continuous or single evaluation with automatic storage is available.
SFP bay
An integrated SFP slot hosts up to two SFP CWDM transceivers, which can simulate CWDM transmitters to test insertion loss per wavelength and end-to-end continuity across multiplexers, demultiplexers and OADMs.
