Overview
The VIAVI OneExpert CATV ONX-630 is a handheld meter for maintaining HFC cable networks. It combines DOCSIS 3.1 performance analysis, spectrum analysis, and forward and reverse sweep measurements in one instrument. It is the plant-maintenance model of the OneExpert CATV platform, which also includes the ONX-620.
A multi-touch interface and OneCheck automated tests show results on a dashboard with clear pass/fail indications. AutoChannel identifies the channel lineup automatically, so no channel plan has to be built. A downstream scan that includes MER and BER on all channels takes about 60 seconds. Ingress and downstream testing run at the same time through the DuoPort design with PosiScan.
Sweep
The ONX-630 works with the SCU-1800 Sweep Control Unit installed at the headend or hub. Together they provide downstream sweep to 1.2 GHz and upstream sweep to 204 MHz. The meter is also backward compatible with existing SDA-5500 and SDA-5510 sweep transmitters, and it can sweep side by side with DSAM-6300 meters. Sweepless Sweep references existing carriers to give a normalized response in distributed access architecture networks. Reverse alignment mode shows the levels of signals that the meter injects, as received at the headend.
Expert modes and connectivity
Channel Expert, DOCSIS Expert and Ingress Expert with Hyper Spectrum gapless FFT help technicians find intermittent problems and their root causes. Session Expert compares results taken at the tap, ground block and CPE, and suggests corrective actions. The meter supports DOCSIS 3.0 32x8 bonding, WiFi testing at 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, and dual Gigabit Ethernet. Optional add-ons include a fiber scope and an optical power meter. Results, assets and software are managed through StrataSync, which offers sweep reporting shared with DSAM meters.
