Overview

The VIAVI Xgig 8-lane CEM-slot Interposer (Xgig4K-PCIe4-X8-AI) connects the VIAVI PCIe 4.0 Analyzer/Jammer chassis to a system under test. It is used to debug and verify new ICs, new system hardware designs and FPGA firmware, to validate system BIOS and software, and to support manufacturing test.

The interposer is installed in an 8- or 16-lane PCIe CEM slot, a slot type found in many servers, workstations and desktop PCs. An endpoint card is then inserted into the interposer's top-edge 16-lane slot connector, which creates the test data path. Four SFF-8674-equivalent custom cables connect the interposer to the Analyzer/Jammer chassis. The interposer runs at up to 16GTps (PCIe 4.0) across 8 lanes in both directions. It also supports the PCIe data rates of 2.5, 5.0 and 8.0GTps. The interposer needs an open chassis while it is in use.

Signal path

High-speed linear signal redrivers buffer the system data signals between the PCIe slot and the PCB fingers. This delivers a clean signal to both the Analyzer and the DUT for protocol capture. In Analyzer mode, DUT data is tapped from the upstream and downstream paths. In Jammer mode or Analyzer/Jammer mode, the data path is switched so that traffic is routed into and out of the Analyzer. This allows error injection.

Software

The interposer works with the Xgig tool suite, including Trace Control, Expert and Serialytics.
