Overview

The VIAVI Network & Service Companion (NSC-100/200) is a compact, screenless hand-held test device that combines multiple test interfaces (PON, Ethernet and WiFi) with VIAVI OneCheck applications. It is used by frontline technicians and installers to validate networks and test multi-gig services for residential and business customers.

The instrument covers both PON service delivery and in-premises service distribution. GPON and XGSPON ONU/ONT emulation, Ethernet interfaces from 10M to 10G and WiFi tests up to WiFi 6 allow technicians to benchmark the service delivered to a premises and to segment issues between the access network and the in-home network. The one-button OneCheck application runs the required tests while on site.

Throughput testing is provided by VIAVI SpeedCheck, Ookla Speedtest, VIAVI TrueSpeed (RFC-6349) and iPerf. The NSC-100 supports throughput tests up to 2 Gbps, while the NSC-200 extends this to 10 Gbps. For business services, the unit can act as an L2/L3 loopback device for Y.1564 and RFC-2544 tests with the T-BERD/MTS-5800, and as a TWAMP Light reflector.

Software and connectivity

The NSC is operated from a smart device through the VIAVI Mobile Tech app over Bluetooth. Job Manager organises jobs, test results and reports; reports can be generated on board and submitted via StrataSync or by email. VIAVI Fusion can use NSC units as remote-controlled test agents for long-term monitoring and failure analysis.
