Overview

The VIAVI FVAM-1000-S is the touchscreen-equipped kitted package of the FVAM-1000 series benchtop microscopes. It is an all-in-one inspection and analysis system for MPO and other multifiber connectors, intended for lab and production environments where MPO trunk cables, assemblies and QSFP components are inspected at multiple stages of manufacture. The package ships with the FMAG-MPO adapter.

The microscope automates focus, panning across each fiber and pass/fail analysis of the end face at the press of a button. Acceptance criteria can be set to IEC 61300-3-35 or to customer-specific requirements. According to VIAVI, a 12-fiber MPO connector can be tested in under 20 seconds.

On-board operation

The FVAM-1000-S has an integrated 2.5 in colour touchscreen and on-board controls, so it can run without a PC. Operators can view live images and analysis results, pan across the end face, configure test requirements and review stored results. Over 1,200 fiber images can be stored on the device, with low and high magnification views and overlay toggles.

Software and adapters

The microscope also works with the FiberChekPRO PC software, which can show all fibers on the end face at once, and it integrates with the VIAVI PCT system. FMAG series magnetic adapters let operators switch between connector types; each adapter handles both SM angled-polish and MM flat-polish connectors through a colour-coded selector. Pre-configured analysis profiles cover 1x12, 4x4 (SR4), 1x16 and 2x12 MPO configurations, MT ferrules, QSFP modules and single-fiber connectors.
