Overview

CleanBlastPRO is an automated fiber end-face cleaning system from VIAVI Solutions. It builds on the original CleanBlast concept and was redesigned to suit component and connectivity manufacturers and integrators who need clean fiber connectors across their production facilities.

The system has an internal solvent tank, an air filtration system, a cleaning handset on a 6-foot umbilical and an LCD screen. Once it is connected to an air source, it cleans a wide range of fiber end faces with a non-contact air-solvent-air sequence that removes loose debris from the end face instead of spreading or embedding it.

Cleaning profiles and handset

Each connector type has its own cleaning profile. A profile runs a series of precision air, solvent and vacuum steps, timed to the millisecond. The handset has a front-facing light and two configurable buttons that switch on the light and start the cleaning cycle. An optional extension handle is available for backplane applications. The system works with the existing FCLT series cleaning tips, which cover male and female, PC and APC connectors, including SC, LC, FC, ST, E2000, MPO, MPX, MT, SMA, HMFOC, SN and CS.

Monitoring and maintenance

On-board sensors track system performance. The LCD screen is used to manage cleaning profiles, refill solvent, collect diagnostic information and install upgrades. Colored LED indicators show when the system is ready or needs maintenance, and a fuel gauge shows how much solvent is left. The internal solvent tank is spill-proof. Front-facing ports and a sealed refill system let the user refill the tank without contaminating it. Automatic drain valves in the air-filter canisters stop condensation from reaching the system, and an active fluid vapor vacuum keeps fumes away from the operator.
