Overview
The VIAVI FVAM-1000 series is an all-in-one benchtop inspection and analysis microscope for MPO and other multifiber connectors. It automates focus, panning across the end face and pass/fail analysis of every fiber, and is intended for manufacturing facilities producing MPO trunk cables, assemblies and QSFP components.
The system applies acceptance criteria such as IEC 61300-3-35 or customer-specific requirements. According to VIAVI, a 12-fiber MPO connector can be inspected and tested in under 20 seconds, and the microscope can be used at post-polish, mid-span test and final test stages of production.
On-board operation and software
The FVAM-1000 can operate independently of a PC. The FVAM-1000-S package adds an integrated 2.5 in color touchscreen for viewing live images and results, panning across fibers, configuring test requirements and reviewing stored results; over 1,200 fiber images (about 100 12-fiber connectors) can be stored on-board. The microscope also works with the FiberChekPRO PC software, which adds the ability to view all fibers on the end face at once, and it integrates with the VIAVI PCT system.
Adapters
The FMAG series magnetic adapters allow quick changes between connector types with precise alignment. Each FMAG adapter inspects both SM angled-polish and MM flat-polish connectors, selected by a color-coded indicator (green for SM APC, aqua for flat-polish MM). Pre-configured analysis profiles cover 1x12, 4x4 (SR4), 1x16 and 2x12 MPO configurations, MT ferrules, QSFP modules and single-fiber connectors.
