Overview
The VIAVI FVAi-2030 is the 30x member of the FV Benchtop Microscopes family, which helps manufacturers and users of optical connectivity keep fiber connector end-faces clean by detecting contamination and defects. Within the family, the 2030 is used to confirm connector cleanliness throughout the manufacturing process. The 400x 2400 models are used for higher-resolution work such as checking polish quality.
The FVAi-2030 combines 30x optics, an ultra-wide field of view, dual magnification, automatic focus and built-in end-face analysis. Operators can see the whole ferrule end face, so contamination on or near the fiber end face can be found and dealt with quickly.
Shaped-Lighting and chamfer inspection
The 2030 uses SL series FMAX adapters with patented Shaped-Lighting technology. These show both the polished area of the ferrule and the surrounding chamfer with equal visibility and contrast in a single image. This allows coaxial illumination across a wide field of view. In FiberChekPRO, a Chamfer Focus function switches the focus plane between the polished surface and the chamfer region. Automated Polish Zone Detection adjusts the outer-most zone to allow for variations in where the chamfer sits, so one setup can cover multiple product types.
Analysis and software
On-board automated image analysis gives objective pass/fail results in place of subjective inspection. Advanced analysis options in FiberChekPRO, such as total occluded area, particle count, total area and total particle size, help operators judge how well cleaning has worked. FiberChekPRO also provides automation APIs, Job Mode for grouping pre-configured tests, and report generation in digital and print formats.
Controls and connectivity
The microscope is operated through a 3.5-inch color LCD touch-screen with an icon-based interface. A USB Type B port connects to a PC. Two USB Type A ports accept external devices such as the P5000i probe and the MP-60 power meter, and a VGA port drives an external display.
