Overview

The VIAVI FFL-100 is the standard-power (1 mW) ruggedized version of the FFL Series Visual Fault Locators. It is used during installation and troubleshooting to locate problem areas in fiber cables such as sharp bends, breaks and damage, and also for end-to-end continuity tests and fiber identification.

The instrument emits visible red light at 650 nm. At a damaged or tightly bent point in the fiber, the escaping light can be seen from a distance, which shows technicians exactly where the fault is. A Continuous/Flash control button selects continuous or flashing illumination.

The FFL-100 has a fixed universal 2.5 mm interface that works with connectors such as SC, ST and FC. An included universal 1.25 mm adapter allows connection to LC and MU connectors. It works with both single-mode and multimode fiber.

The ruggedized housing absorbs shock and is made for demanding field use. The unit runs on two AA batteries, and a magnet lets it attach quickly to a rack or panel. It comes with a lanyard/neck strap and a soft-sided carrying case with belt loop.
