Overview

The VIAVI FI-60 Live Fiber Identifier (LFI) detects the optical signal on a fiber without disconnecting it or disrupting network traffic. Its purpose is to reduce the risk of dropped service that comes from accidentally disconnecting active fiber during installation, test and troubleshooting.

The FI-60 uses the VIAVI SafeChek system, an easy-pull trigger that engages most fiber types safely and repeatably without changing dies. A single LFI head accepts cable diameters from 250 μm to 3 mm jacketed fiber. An integrated ambient light shield helps prevent false readings.

Optical power meter mode

To use the FI-60 as an Optical Power Meter (OPM), the user removes the LFI head attachment, fits the matching metal input adapter (2.5 mm or 1.25 mm) and inserts a connector. In this mode the instrument measures absolute (dBm) and relative (dB) power at selectable wavelengths and can display, store and recall up to 100 readings.

Connectivity and software

Stored data can be downloaded to a PC over USB. The FI-60 also works with FiberChek2 for combined fiber inspection and OPM test reporting, and with the FiberChekPRO software.

Key Features

  • SafeChek easy-pull trigger system for repeatable engagement with fiber cable
  • LFI head accepts multiple cable diameters (250μm to 3mm jacketed fibers)
  • Integrated ambient light shield to avoid false readings
  • Compact, ergonomic design for access to cable in multiple environments
  • Detachable LFI head converts the unit to a full-function optical power meter
  • Durable metal input adapters (2.5 and 1.25mm) for OPM
  • Measure both absolute (dBm) and relative (dB) power
  • Store and recall up to 100 OPM readings
  • Export results to a PC via USB
  • Interfaces with FiberChek2 for integrated inspection and OPM test reporting
