Overview

The MSRC-C21308LP-M101-MFP is a low power Light Emitting Diode (LED) source module in the VIAVI Multiple Application Platform (MAP) general purpose mSRC-C2 family. It provides individual outputs at the two most commonly used multimode wavelengths, 850 nm and 1300 nm, on 50 µm multimode fiber with encircled flux (EF) compliant launch conditions and FC/PC connectors.

LED sources emit incoherent broadband light and are used for testing broadband multimode components. Compared with SLEDs and Fabry-Perot lasers they have a slightly broader spectral width and lower output power. The incoherent nature of the light avoids interference effects in short fibers where reflections are present. Because an under- or over-filled launch can give optimistic or pessimistic loss results, the module uses IEC-compliant launch conditions for multimode measurements. Output power is fixed, with ±0.05 dB power stability.

Platform

The mSRC is part of the MAP LightDirect module family and is compatible with all current MAP-300 and MAP-200 chassis, which host 2, 3 or 8 application modules. The platform is LXI compliant, with SCPI-based automation drivers, PC-based management tools and a web-enabled multiuser graphical interface that offers summary and detailed views for laboratory and manufacturing use.
