Overview
The MOSX-C1116XCCB0-M100-MSC is the 16-port, SC/PC bulkhead version of the VIAVI MAP Series mOSX-C1 cross connect optical switch. It is a non-blocking, bidirectional matrix switch module for single-mode fiber, occupying a dual slot in a MAP chassis and compatible with all current MAP-300 and MAP-200 chassis.
The switch fabric supports any-port to any-port connections, so the same hardware can be configured in software as symmetric (for example 8x8) or asymmetric (for example 4x12) topologies. A 16-port switch can be set up as a dual 4x4, 8x8, 7x9, 6x10 or 1x15. Ports can be allocated as inputs or outputs as needed, connections can be pre-configured without light present, and connections can be made and broken without affecting any other connection.
Switching principle
The switching engine uses compact piezoelectric actuators to align the signal path with expanded beam optics. A capacitive sensor matrix measures the position of the collimating lens to provide long-term stability and repeatability, and connections are maintained even when no light is present. Reflective optics fold the switch engine so that each fiber can connect to all other fibers.
Control and integration
The module is controlled through the MAP Series graphical user interface or a SCPI remote interface. Ports can be given logical names, connections between ports can be disabled or re-enabled, and an optional software setting can restrict the switch to a programmed MxN topology. Paired with VIAVI mOSW modules, the mOSX can be used to build larger switching systems.
