Overview

The VIAVI MOSX-C1116XCCB0-M100-MLU is the 16-port, LC/APC bulkhead, single-slot configuration of the MAP Series mOSX-C1 cross connect optical switch. The mOSX-C1 is a non-blocking, bidirectional matrix switch that works as a test path manager: multiple test paths can be connected across the switch fabric so that test processes run in parallel.

Switch fabric

The switch supports any-port to any-port connections and can be set up in symmetric MxM topologies (for example 8x8) or asymmetric topologies (for example 4x12), so the same hardware can be reconfigured on demand. Ports are allocated as input or output as needed. Connections can be pre-configured without light present, stay in a blocking state until they are activated, and can be made or broken without affecting any other connection. A 16-port switch can be set up as a dual 4x4, 8x8, 7x9, 6x10 or 1x15. As a software option, the switch can be given a fixed MxN topology so that only connections matching that structure are allowed. Connections between ports can also be disabled and re-enabled.

Measurement principle

The switching engine uses compact piezoelectric actuators to align the signal path through expanded beam optics. A capacitive sensor matrix measures the position of the collimating lens, which keeps the alignment stable and repeatable over time. Connections hold even when no light is present, and reflective optics fold the engine so that each fiber can connect to every other fiber.

Control and platform

The module is controlled through a SCPI remote interface or the MAP Series graphical user interface. In the GUI, ports can be given logical names, and users can switch between summary and detailed views. The mOSX belongs to the LightDirect switching module family and works with all current MAP-300 and MAP-200 chassis. Paired with VIAVI mOSW modules, it can be used to build larger switching systems.
