Overview

The MOSX-C1116XCCB0-M100-MLC is the 16-port, LC/PC bulkhead, single-slot variant of the VIAVI MAP Series mOSX-C1 cross connect optical switch. It is a common connection single-mode optical matrix switch intended as a test path manager in automated optical test systems. Connecting multiple test paths across the switch fabric allows parallel test processes.

The mOSX is a non-blocking, bidirectional matrix switch with an any-port to any-port connection fabric. It supports symmetric MxM topologies (for example 8x8) as well as asymmetric topologies (for example 4x12). A 16-port switch can be set up as a dual 4x4, 8x8, 7x9, 6x10 or 1x15 configuration, with the topology set by software on the same hardware. Ports can be allocated as inputs or outputs as needed, and connections can be pre-configured without light present and made or broken without affecting other connections.

Switching principle

The switching engine uses compact piezoelectric actuators to align the signal path through expanded beam optics. A capacitive sensor matrix measures the position of the collimating lens, supporting long-term stability and repeatability. Reflective optics fold the switch engine so that each fiber can connect to all other fibers. Connections are maintained even when no light is present.

Control and platform

The module is controlled through a SCPI remote interface or the MAP Series graphical user interface, where ports can be given logical names. As a software option, the switch can be assigned a specific MxN topology so that only connections following that structure are allowed. The mOSX is part of the LightDirect switching module family and is compatible with all current MAP-300 and MAP-200 chassis. It can be paired with MAP Series mOSW modules to build larger switching systems.
