Overview
The VIAVI MOSX-C1116XCCB0-M100-MFA is the 16-port, FC/APC bulkhead version of the mOSX-C1 cross connect optical switch for the MAP Series. It is a dual-slot module and is compatible with all current MAP-300 and MAP-200 chassis. The mOSX-C1 serves as a test path manager: connecting multiple test paths across the switch fabric allows parallel test processes in development and manufacturing.
The switch is non-blocking and bidirectional, with a maximum insertion loss of 1.5 dB for the 16-port configuration and switching time of 25 ms or less. Its fabric supports any-port to any-port connections, so the same hardware can be configured in software as symmetric or asymmetric topologies; a 16-port switch can be set up as a dual 4x4, 8x8, 7x9, 6x10 or 1x15. Ports can be allocated as inputs or outputs as needed, connections can be pre-configured without light present, and connections can be made and broken without affecting other connections.
Switching principle
The switching engine uses compact piezoelectric actuators to align the signal path through expanded beam optics. A capacitive sensor matrix measures the position of the collimating lens for long-term stability and repeatability, and connections are maintained even when no light is present. Reflective optics fold the switch engine so that each fiber can connect to all other fibers.
Control
The module is controlled through the MAP Series graphical user interface or a SCPI remote interface. Ports can be given logical names, connections between ports can be disabled or re-enabled, and an optional MxN topology can be assigned so that only connections following the programmed structure are allowed. The mOSX can be paired with VIAVI mOSW modules to build larger switching systems.
