Overview
The VIAVI ONT-812A is a 12-slot rack-mount mainframe in the ONT-800 Optical Network Tester family. It is the version for 110V AC with a reduced power profile, and it delivers up to 2400 W of DC power to its application modules. The ONT-800 is a configurable multi-protocol, multi-port test platform for R&D and system verification of optical transport ICs, modules and systems.
The ONT-800 platform builds on its predecessor, the ONT-600, and provides the bandwidth, power and cooling needed for testing at 600G per lambda and beyond. ONT-600 modules are compatible. The family includes several mainframes and application modules, from single-slot point tools up to rack-mounted multi-slot, multi-port and multi-user systems. All application modules use the same GUI, automation and scripting.
Operation and automation
The ONT-812A has no built-in display. It runs a Linux operating system, supports VNC-based remote operation and has connectors for an external keyboard, mouse and display. It can also run stand-alone software such as Wireshark. Remote control uses SCPI commands over the LAN port. Modules are addressed independently and in parallel, and they can be shared among multiple users and across mainframes. Scripting is supported for Tcl/Tk, Python, C libraries and LabView. The mainframe suits cost-sensitive and scripted applications in SVT and manufacturing.
Synchronization
A built-in clock module synchronizes the modules and test ports. It has BNC, Bantam and Time of Day inputs for external synchronization. An ultra high accuracy GNSS Rb clock is available as a factory-fitted option.
