Overview
The VIAVI ONT-812 is the 12-slot, 19-inch rack-mount mainframe of the ONT-800 optical network tester family. The ONT-800 platform is a configurable, multi-protocol, multi-port test platform for R&D and system verification of optical transport ICs, modules and systems. It succeeds the ONT-600 and provides the bandwidth, power and cooling needed for testing at 600G per lambda and beyond, including 400G and 800G optical pluggables.
The ONT-812 is supplied without a display and is intended for cost-sensitive and scripted applications in system verification testing and manufacturing. It runs a Linux operating system with VNC-based remote operation, can run stand-alone software such as Wireshark on its controller, and offers connectors for an external keyboard, mouse and display. Application modules are hot swappable, and the mainframe is compatible with ONT-600 modules.
Clock and synchronization
A mainframe controller and clock module provides an internal master clock accurate to ±1.0 ppm, with BNC, Bantam and Time of Day inputs and outputs for external synchronization. An optional factory-fitted GNSS and rubidium oscillator option (3078/92.02) adds satellite-disciplined time and frequency accuracy.
Remote control and automation
The mainframe can be controlled remotely via SCPI commands over the LAN port. Modules are addressed independently and in parallel and may be shared among multiple users and across multiple mainframes network-wide. Scripting support is provided for Tcl/Tk, Python, C libraries and LabView, and the interactive GUI works in parallel with remote control. All ONT application modules share the same GUI, automation and scripting across the ONT family.
