Overview

The SmartPocket V2 OLS-3xV2 family from VIAVI is a range of small, rugged optical light sources for field insertion loss measurement and continuity checks. They are designed to work with the SmartPocket V2 OLP-3xV2 optical power meters for loss and continuity testing in single mode (SM) and multimode (MM) optical fiber networks.

The instruments switch on instantly with no boot time and have low power consumption for extended continuous use. A backlit graphical display with context-sensitive softkeys handles operation. When paired with SmartPocket V2 power meters, the sources support Auto-λ and Multi-λ modes and can generate tones for fiber tracing.

The family covers several wavelength configurations. The OLS-35V2 is a dual-wavelength single mode source at 1310/1550 nm. The OLS-36V2 is a quad-wavelength source combining multimode 850/1300 nm and single mode 1310/1550 nm. The datasheet also lists the OLS-34V2 multimode source (850/1300 nm) and the OLS-38V2 single mode source (1310/1550/1625 nm).

The units can run on alkaline AA batteries, NiMH AA rechargeable batteries, an AC power adapter, or power over USB. Switchable optical adapter versions are available.
