VIAVI Automation Management and Orchestration System (VAMOS) Test Automation Platform

Cloud-based platform that automates wireless test campaigns, cases and executions across VIAVI and third-party lab tools.

Deployment options
Bare Metal, Private & Public Cloud

Overview

The VIAVI Automation Management and Orchestration System (VAMOS) is integrated with the VIAVI NITRO® Wireless portfolio. It automates test campaigns, test cases and test executions within a single cloud-based platform.

Customizable workspaces and configurations are used to streamline the testing process and improve resource use across teams and lab locations. Shared tool testbeds and individual sandboxes support a range of test needs, and the platform's analytics and reporting functions support test accuracy.

VAMOS uses AI, ML and Lab-as-a-Service (LaaS) approaches to reduce operational costs by lowering the man hours required for testing and improving the efficiency of fault analysis.

Automation and orchestration

The platform automates both VIAVI and third-party tools. A REST API handles scheduling, deployment, configuration, execution, result collection and image deletion. Scripts are decoupled from the system under test (SUT), which is provided as configuration for portability across test lines, and testbed topologies can be orchestrated at run time. VAMOS can act as a primary or secondary to any standard automation framework.

Deployment and security

VAMOS supports bare metal, private cloud and public cloud deployment. Security functions include single sign-on, multi-tenancy, role management, and LDAP and Microsoft Active Directory integration, with a DevSecOps framework for regular security scans and vulnerability tracking.

Key Features

  • Test suite automation with single click execution for on-demand or scheduled tests
  • Zero touch automation: REST API handles scheduling, deployment, configuration, execution, result collection and image deletion
  • Test campaigns linked to required resources; VAMOS stores SUT capabilities
  • Decoupled scripts: SUT provided as configuration for portability across test lines
  • Managed databases for SW version-agnostic test campaigns, SW images, golden configs, KPIs/logs
  • Multi-product solutions: single click execution for SW upgrades to newer or older versions
  • Auto verification and reporting, customizable for O-RAN test cases
  • Reconfigurable testbed with run-time orchestrated test line topologies
  • Flexible automation framework: can act as a primary or secondary to any standard automation framework
  • Compatible with customer front-end interfaces
  • Smart test scheduler shortens execution time and maximizes utilization with parallel test lines
  • Test prioritization to focus on tests likely to find defects
  • Energy efficiency: right-sized resources and power off of unused resources
  • Baseline observability, AI-powered analytics, log filters, fault finding, event-driven logging and defect triage
  • Data integration: web sockets push data to external databases and CNCF tools
  • Dashboards with test monitoring charts, lab health KPIs and notification manager
  • Automation performance reports: HW utilization, tests run, quality trends, activity logs
  • Parallel logging conversion during and after tests, with data retention policies
  • Automated result comparison between multiple runs
  • Single sign-on, multi-tenancy, role management and centralized launch page
  • LDAP and Microsoft Active Directory integration
  • DevSecOps framework with regular security scans and vulnerability tracking
  • Shared tool testbed compute on COTS servers for multiple test needs
  • Dynamic SW tool selection for on-demand sandboxes, destroyed after use
  • Scheduling layer beyond individual labs for resource balancing across lab locations
