Overview

The VIAVI CellAdvisor JD726C is the 5 MHz to 6 GHz model of the JD720C series of handheld cable and antenna analyzers. It is intended for installation and maintenance of cell-site infrastructure, where most faults are found in the antenna system, the RF and fiber feed-lines and the connectors.

The JD726C performs reflection measurements (VSWR and return loss), distance to fault (DTF), 1-port cable loss, 1-port phase and Smith chart displays. The JD726C also supports 2-port transmission and 2-port phase for characterizing filters, jumpers, splitters and amplifiers and for verifying antenna or sector-to-sector isolation. An optional built-in bias tee and an optional high-power CW signal generator are available.

Besides RF testing, the analyzer measures RF power with external power sensors, measures optical power with VIAVI MP-60/MP-80 USB optical power meters and inspects fiber connectors with the P5000i fiber microscope, giving pass/fail indications. This puts RF and fiber feed-line verification in one instrument.

Operation and connectivity

The instrument has a 7-inch transflective resistive touch-screen display with an outdoor mode and a backlit key panel. Analysis features include trace overlay, three zoom zones, Alt DTF band, dual display, peak and valley markers per zone and several limit-line types. Results can be exported as PDF/HTML reports, analyzed in JDViewer and the instrument can be remotely controlled through JDRemote or a web browser over LAN, Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. TestWizard (option 007) runs pre-defined self-guided test procedures.
