Overview

The VIAVI CellAdvisor JD724C is a handheld cable and antenna analyzer in the JD720C series, covering 5 MHz to 4 GHz. It is intended for cell-site installation and maintenance, combining line sweep measurement, RF and optical power measurement, and fiber inspection in one instrument.

Most problems in wireless networks occur in the base station infrastructure: the antenna system, cables and connectors, typically in the coax or fiber feed-line. Contamination of fiber connectors is the most common fiber-related problem. Networks with fiber feed-lines require verification of both RF and fiber, which the JD720C series handles in a single unit.

The JD724C performs 1-port measurements to characterize cell-site cable and antenna systems, including VSWR and return loss reflection, distance to fault (DTF), 1-port cable loss, 1-port phase and Smith chart. With external sensors it measures RF power, and with VIAVI optical power meters and the P5000i fiber microscope it measures optical power and inspects fiber connectors with pass/fail indication.

A 7-inch color touch-screen display presents results, and connectivity to VIAVI application software (JDViewer, JDRemote) supports post-analysis, report generation and remote control. Optional Bluetooth, WiFi and USB GPS connectivity and the TestWizard self-guided test option are available.
