Overview

The VIAVI FFL-055 is the high-power, pocket-sized version in the FFL Series of visual fault locators. A visual fault locator (VFL) finds problem areas in fiber cables. It shows technicians exactly where a fiber is damaged so they can diagnose and repair it. The VFL is also used for continuity tests and fiber identification.

The FFL-055 emits visible red light at 650 nm. Light escaping from a break or sharp bend can be seen from a distance. Its output is under 5 mW (Laser Class 3R), and its maximum range is 12 km, which depends on fiber quality and loss. A Continuous/Flash control button switches between continuous and flashing illumination.

The unit has a universal 2.5 mm connector interface that works with SC, ST and FC connectors. The included universal 1.25 mm adapter allows connection to LC and MU connectors. The pocket-sized housing runs on two AAA batteries, which are included, and comes with a soft-sided carrying case with belt loop.
