Overview
The VIAVI INX 660 Inspection Probe Microscope is a handheld field instrument for inspecting and analyzing fiber optic connector end-faces. It is optimized for field use and supports VIAVI Test Process Automation (TPA). It automates each step of the inspection process: test setup, tip configuration, end-face image focus and capture, end-face image analysis, and result storage.
According to the manufacturer, a complete inspection cycle for a simplex connector takes under 5 seconds. The user attaches the appropriate tip and mates it with the connector end-face, which triggers automated inspection.
AutoID inspection tips
The INX 660 uses FPT inspection tips made of stainless steel with integrated AutoID technology. The tip configures the microscope for the connector under inspection, so optical settings and the most recent analysis profile are applied without manual setup. The tips use a single-piece design with a fast-threading coupling collar. The INX 660 and INX 760 microscopes use the same simplex inspection tips.
Multifiber inspection
Multifiber connectors are inspected in a semi-automated, prompted mode with dedicated INX 660 tips. The operator turns a manual panning wheel to each indicated position and captures an image. The microscope stitches the captures together and runs pass/fail analysis for the entire connector.
Design and connectivity
The microscope has a textured, ergonomic handle that can be gripped with or without gloves, an energy-absorbing protective overmold, a field-serviceable battery and a glove-compatible touch display. It has WiFi and Bluetooth, connects to the VIAVI TPA ecosystem through VIAVI Mobile Tech and StrataSync, and works with ReportPRO PC reporting software.
