Overview
The VIAVI E81165D is the in-service 1650 nm member of the 8100-Series OTDR EVO (8100D) module family for the OneAdvisor 800 Fiber platform. The 8100D modules are designed for testing single-mode standard and hollow-core fibers across metro, long-haul and ultra-long-haul networks during installation, turn-up and maintenance.
The module can be connected anywhere on the fiber to characterize the link for commissioning, network upgrades and troubleshooting. Instantaneous automatic traffic detection avoids live signal interference and damage to the optical transmitter when testing an active fiber, which is the intended use of the 1650 nm in-service wavelength. Smart Link Mapper (SLM) presents results as a link map to reduce OTDR interpretation errors without increasing test time.
Standard testing features include automatic macrobend detection, a summary results table with pass/fail analysis and FastReport onboard report generation. The family is PON-optimized for testing through splitters up to 1x128 and provides up to 256,000 acquisition points.
According to the datasheet ordering information, the integrated continuous-wave light source and power meter of the 8100D family are not available on the E81165D version.
