Overview
The VIAVI 8100-Series OTDR EVO family is a range of OTDR modules for the OneAdvisor 800 Fiber platform. The 8100D module is designed for high-performance optical networks and tests single-mode standard fibers and hollow core fibers across metro, long-haul and ultra-long-haul infrastructures, including submarine cable networks.
The modules can be connected anywhere on the fiber to characterize the link for commissioning, network upgrades and troubleshooting. Automatic traffic detection checks for live signals before an acquisition to avoid interference with traffic or damage to the optical transmitter. Smart Link Mapper (SLM) presents results as a link map to reduce OTDR interpretation errors without extending test time, and the dead zone performance allows full characterization of element events on a fiber link 2 meters apart.
Standard testing features include automatic macrobend detection, a summary results table with pass/fail analysis and FastReport onboard report generation. The family is PON-optimized to test through a 1x128 splitter and is available in single-, dual- and tri-wavelength versions at 1310, 1550, 1625 and 1650 nm, with a single connector port for 1310, 1550 and in-service 1650 nm wavelengths. Versions with an integrated continuous-wave light source and broadband power meter on the OTDR port are available for single-mode wavelengths.
