Overview
The Luna PB is a pigtailed fiber-optic polarization beam combiner/splitter, part of the passive components group originally offered by General Photonics. A NoTail version without external pigtails is sold as the NPB.
The device can work as a polarization beam combiner, combining light from two PM input fibers into a single output fiber. It can also work as a polarization beam splitter, dividing light from one input fiber into two output fibers with orthogonal polarization states. A key application is polarization division multiplexing and demultiplexing, which increases the transmission capacity of optical systems.
In optical amplifiers, the device can be used as a pump combiner. It merges the output of two pump lasers into a single fiber, which raises the amplifier's saturation power and reduces its polarization sensitivity. The device has a wide operating bandwidth and high power handling, and it comes in a stainless steel package.
The manufacturer lists this product as discontinued.
