Overview
The PSG-001 is a polarization state generator module that produces six states of polarization (SOP): −45°, 0°, 45°, 90°, right-hand circular (RHC) and left-hand circular (LHC). These correspond to the six pole points of the Poincaré sphere. The manufacturer lists the product as discontinued; the PSG 2000 and PSG-002/D High-Speed Polarization State Generators are named as alternatives.
The design is based on magneto-optic rotators, which allow the polarization states to be generated quickly and repeatably. The module can also be used for precise 90° polarization rotation.
The output state of polarization is selected with a 6-bit TTL signal, supplied from a microcontroller or a computer through a 10-pin digital port that also carries the +12 V supply. Its compact size makes it suitable for integration into test instruments or systems that use Mueller or Jones matrix measurements.
Typical uses include Mueller matrix-based measurements, polarization OTDR, performance monitoring and swept-frequency component measurement systems.
