Overview
The ODiSI 7108 is the eight-channel configuration of the Luna ODiSI 7100 Series of optical distributed sensor interrogators. It uses a single continuous optical fiber as the sensor and provides thousands of strain or temperature measurements per meter of fiber. This lets it map complete strain contours on a structure under test, or continuous temperature profiles of a process, in real time.
The fiber sensors are flexible and low profile, and they need no electrical source. They can be bonded to sharply curved surfaces, embedded within structures or mounted directly to electrical surfaces. Each channel measures standard Rayleigh high-definition (HD) sensors or continuous fiber grating (CFG) sensors. With Standard Remote Modules, a channel supports an HD sensor up to 20 m long or a CFG sensor up to 15 m long. The optional Extended Range Remote Modules raise this to 100 m per channel and add support for HD-SC strain-compensated temperature sensors.
Measurement modes
The system can be configured for a gage pitch of 0.65 mm, 1.3 mm, 2.6 mm or 5.2 mm with HD sensors, and 6 mm with CFG sensors. Gage pitch and gage location are set in software. A strain-compensated temperature mode improves temperature accuracy in surface-mounted and embedded installations. Optical alignment and calibration run automatically with every scan, and strain sensors are calibrated with NIST-traceable fixtures.
Software and integration
The system comes with a controller running the ODiSI application software on Linux. The software configures the system and acquires, visualizes, logs and replays measurement data. Data can be streamed in real time over Ethernet. ODiSI Remote software for Windows and Linux gives remote control and viewing of the system. For integration with other equipment, the system supports IEEE 1588 PTP time synchronization, a JSON-based streaming data format, a TTL sync output, and start and stop triggering. An optional USB module adds analog outputs.
