Overview
The ODiSI 7101 is a model in the Luna ODiSI 7100 Series of optical distributed sensor interrogators. The series is designed for testing advanced materials and systems. It uses a single continuous optical fiber as the sensor and provides thousands of strain or temperature measurements per meter. With this data, the system can map strain contours across a structure under test or record continuous temperature profiles of a process in real time.
The fiber sensor is flexible and low profile and needs no electrical source. It can be bonded to sharply curved surfaces, embedded within structures or mounted directly to electrical surfaces. Because the sensors are passive, dielectric and corrosion resistant, they can be installed in bends and corners and inside materials.
Sensors and measurement modes
The interrogator works with high-definition (HD) Rayleigh sensors, Continuous Fiber Grating (CFG) sensors and HD-SC strain-compensated temperature sensors. With Standard Remote Modules, each channel supports an HD sensor up to 20 m long or a CFG sensor up to 15 m long. Optional Extended Range Remote Modules extend this to sensors up to 100 m long and add support for HD-SC strain-compensated temperature sensors. Gage pitch can be set in software to 0.65 mm, 1.3 mm, 2.6 mm or 5.2 mm.
Software and integration
The system ships with ODiSI application software running on a Linux controller. The software handles sensor identification and configuration, real-time plotting, data logging, replay and export. ODiSI Remote software for Windows and Linux provides remote control and live viewing. For integration, the system supports IEEE 1588 PTP time synchronization, a JSON-based streaming data format, a TTL sync output and start/stop triggering. An optional USB module adds analog outputs, and optional 3DViz software maps data onto 3D models or 2D images.
