Overview

The Anritsu MU909060A2 is a Gigabit Ethernet module for the MT9090A Network Master mainframe. It has two electrical RJ-45 ports. Fitted to the mainframe, it makes a compact, battery-powered tester for installing, commissioning and troubleshooting Ethernet communication lines at 10/100/1000 Mbps.

The instrument checks bandwidth, connectivity and service availability. It has a 4.3-inch wide-screen color display and a graphical user interface for setup and result viewing. It is ready to measure about 15 seconds after start-up. Depending on configuration, it runs for up to 3 hours on one battery charge. The design has no fans or vents, which keeps dust and moisture out.

Network activation

For installation and QoS verification, the module generates traffic, including VLAN-tagged traffic, and provides BER testing, performance statistics and QoS statistics. Optional RFC 2544 and ITU-T Y.1564 test suites automate service activation testing. In end-to-end mode, two units work together in an in-band control setup and both units' results are shown on the master instrument. A Test Automator runs a sequence of tests, and setups can be copied to other instruments over USB.

Maintenance and troubleshooting

Both ports can be used at the same time, which supports pass-through monitoring and bidirectional monitoring. On the MU909060A2, an electrical cable test detects cable status, distance to fault, pin mapping and polarity. Optional Channel Stats can monitor up to 63 filtered streams. With the Remote GUI option, the instrument can be operated from a web browser. Results can be exported as PDF or CSV reports.
