Overview
The VIAVI MAP Series Optical Spectrum Analyzer (mOSA-C1) is a diffraction grating based spectral measurement system built on a monochromator design. It covers the full single-mode fiber range from 1260 to 1660 nm, with a C- and L-band only version also available, and is packaged as a single-slot module for the MAP-300 mainframe family.
The module combines a 20 pm resolution bandwidth with a full-span scan of 1.6 s over more than 400 nm, making it suitable for both laboratory and production-line use. Traces can be acquired at a full 1 pm sampling resolution at maximum scan speed, and the available memory allows users to zoom and pan through the complete data set after acquisition. Low-power signals are averaged over multiple individual scans.
Platform and software
As part of the MAP LightDirect family, the mOSA-C1 can be combined with other MAP optical application modules to test coherent and client transceivers, source lasers, optical amplifiers and passive components. The graphical user interface is accessible over a web connection, through an HDMI monitor, or on a mainframe version with an integrated touchscreen. Markers, trace math and automated referencing are built in, and optional analysis licenses add passive component, transceiver, amplifier and CW source analysis.
Automation and calibration
Remote control uses SCPI-compliant commands over Ethernet, with an optional GPIB port on the MAP mainframe. Two automation methods are offered: a "Direct-to-Module" command set for trace set-up, acquisition and download, and an "Application Environment" interface with advanced parameter-extraction functions. An internal calibration source with an acetylene gas cell and a broadband light source supports a fully automatic wavelength calibration that takes a few minutes.
