VIAVI eCo Suite SCA 4.1 Integrated Development Environment for Software Defined Systems
Integrated development environment and SCA 4.1 core framework for developing, testing and integrating software defined radio and embedded systems.
- Software Communications Architecture
- SCA 4.1
- Backward compatibility
- SCA 2.2.2
Overview
eCo Suite is an integrated development environment (IDE) for developing software defined systems based on the Software Communications Architecture version 4.1 (SCA 4.1). It includes the SCA core framework and a set of tools to develop, test and integrate applications and platforms. The suite uses a Model Driven Environment (MDE) to make embedded system and application development simpler and to shorten development and test cycles.
The suite complies with version 4.1 of the SCA open standard and is backward compatible with SCA version 2.2.2. Military and civilian wireless equipment manufacturers use it around the world, and certification authorities use it as a reference implementation.
Components
eCo Hub implements the SCA 4.1 Core Framework (CF), which deploys, configures and controls software applications on the target embedded platform. eCo Architect is a model-driven environment with a Component-Based Development (CBD) approach. It covers the full development life cycle, from modeling and validating components to generating SCA-compliant C++ source code and assembling components into applications or nodes. eCo Inspector gives a runtime view of the SCA system design, with several views of the software structure of any SCA-compliant platform.
eCo DSP Toolbox is a library of signal processing components that are common in wireless communications systems. The components come as C++ source code with eCo Architect SCA models, and the toolbox includes Amplitude Modulation (AM) and Frequency Modulation (FM) demonstration applications. SCA Devices implement open, publicly available APIs from the Joint Tactical Network Center (JTNC) and the Wireless Innovation Forum (WInnF) as SCA Devices or Services.
Packaging and Distribution
The components are sold in several packages: the full eCo Suite, the SCA Core Framework (eCo Hub), the eCo Design Tool (eCo Architect and eCo Inspector) and eCo Supplements (eCo DSP Toolbox and SCA Devices). eCo Hub ships as object code compiled for a defined operating environment, meaning a specific combination of processor, operating system and CORBA ORB. The eCo Design Tools ship in binary format and are licensed per developer. The eCo Supplements ship as source code.
Key Features
- SCA 4.1 Core Framework (eCo Hub) that deploys, configures and controls software applications on the target embedded platform
- Backward compatibility with SCA 2.2.2
- eCo Hub implements the SCA 4.1 Full Profile with support for nearly all Units of Functionality
- High-speed core framework that minimizes SCA system boot time
- Supports the Application Backward Compatible Unit of Functionality, allowing mixed SCA 2.2.2 and SCA 4.1 applications
- eCo Hub is not subject to ITAR restrictions
- eCo Architect generates all SCA code automatically from the model
- Zero-merge code generation: code can be regenerated without merging two versions of the source
- Drag-and-drop assembly of components into applications or platform nodes
- Real-time model validation with suggested fixes
- Conversion of existing models to SCA 4.1 and refactoring of code generated with the SCARI 2.2.2 tool
- Supports Eclipse shared projects for reusing common modeling elements
- Multi-development and operating environment support
- eCo Inspector Multiple Domain Control for connecting to more than one platform or domain at the same time
- Built-in application installer for SCA platform file systems
- Generic property browser for every SCA property type, with dynamic or batch value changes
- Assignment of application components to specific processors or devices
- Real-time, peak and average plotting of Time Domain, Frequency Domain and Constellation graphs
- Real-time platform analysis that reports the status of every component
- Domain, Application, Deployment and block diagram views of deployed components
- eCo DSP Toolbox with waveform components (codecs, interleavers, modulator/demodulator, filters, resamplers, synchronizer)
- Utility and test components including data generators, Bit Error Rate meter and channel emulator
- AM and FM demonstration applications included as tutorials
- SCA Devices for JTNC APIs: AudioPort, Ethernet, GPS, SerialPort, TimingServices, Vocoder, MHAL
- WInnF devices: Transceiver 2.0 and International Radio Security Services (IRSS)
