Overview
The VIAVI Xgig M.2 4-lane Interposer for PCI Express 5.0, part number Xgig5P-PCIe5-X4-MD2B, is an active interposer designed for M.2 SSD development. It provides a tap of the data signals between a host system and an M.2 PCIe SSD for input to the VIAVI PCIe 5.0 analysis system, and can be used in servers, workstations, desktop and notebook PCs and other system types.
Bidirectional PCIe 5.0 protocol data on each of 4 lanes is captured at up to 32GT/s, with downward compatibility to 2.5, 5.0, 8.0 and 16GT/s. The interposer accepts M.2 card types 2230, 2242, 2260, 2280 and 22110. High-speed linear redrivers buffer the system data signals so that a clean signal is delivered to both the analyzer and the devices under test.
Setup and operating modes
The PCIe SSD is mounted in the interposer's M.2 card tray, and cables connect the interposer to the VIAVI analysis platform chassis. The M.2 DUT PCB and cable are installed in the system under test and plugged into the interposer pod. In analyzer mode, upstream and downstream data are tapped as inputs to the analyzer ports; in Analyzer/Jammer mode, data flows through the analyzer chassis; in Analyzer/Exerciser mode, data flows through the interposer to the DUT.
Applications and software
Used with the VIAVI Xgig 5P16 or 5P8 PCIe 5.0 analysis platforms, the interposer supports debug and verification of new ICs, M.2 PCIe SSD cards, system implementations, firmware development, validation of system BIOS and software, and manufacturing test. It is supported by the Xgig tool suite, including Trace Control, Expert and Serialytics, for full decode and analysis of data traffic and link states.
