Overview
The VIAVI Xgig 16-lane CEM Type-B Interposer for PCI Express 4.0 (Xgig4K-PCIe4-X16-AIB) connects a VIAVI PCIe 4.0 Analyzer/Jammer chassis to a system under test. It installs into a 16-lane PCIe CEM slot, as found in many servers, workstations and desktop PCs, and provides the Analyzer with a tap of the data signals exchanged between host and endpoint devices. It operates at the 16 GTps PCIe 4.0 rate across 16 bi-directional lanes and is downward compatible with earlier PCIe generations.
The interposer uses high-speed linear signal redrivers to buffer the system data signals between the PCIe slot and the PCB fingers, delivering a clean signal to both the Analyzer and the DUT for protocol capture and analysis with minimal tuning.
Application
The interposer is inserted into a 16-lane PCIe slot in the host system, and an endpoint card is inserted into its top 16-lane slot connector to create the test data path. Cables connect the interposer to the VIAVI Analyzer/Jammer platform chassis. In Analyzer mode, DUT data is captured from both the upstream and downstream paths; in Jammer or Analyzer/Jammer mode, the data path is switched to route traffic into and out of the Analyzer, enabling error injection. The interposer requires an open chassis while in use.
Typical uses include debug and verification of new ICs, system hardware designs and FPGA firmware, validation of system BIOS and software, and manufacturing test. The interposer is supported by the Xgig tool suite, including Trace Control, Expert and Serialytics.
