Overview
The VIAVI Hi-Res Multimode OTDR Solution is an OTDR module for the OneAdvisor 800 Fiber Platform. It characterizes and locates faults on very short multimode fiber runs deployed in aircraft, spacecraft, submarines and ships. It is compact, lightweight and portable, so it can be used where access to the fiber is difficult or limited. It can also characterize fibers during the manufacturing process.
User interface and test modes
The streamlined user interface is designed to simplify OTDR testing and results interpretation, so technicians at any skill level can run tests without setup errors. The enhanced OTDR test mode includes SmartLink Mapper (SLM), which shows the fiber link and its passive elements (connectors, splices and bends) as an icon-based map and diagnoses potential problems when pass/fail thresholds are set. A trace overlay function compares maintenance results to a reference trace to show differences. SmartConfigs are generic and user-defined setup configurations that help prevent setup errors and keep results consistent across users.
Inspection and reporting
The solution is compatible with the P5000i digital analysis microscope for inspecting and certifying ARINC-standardized fiber connectors, and includes connector end-face inspection with automated pass/fail analysis. TIA/IEC pass/fail thresholds support Tier-2 certification, and FastReport generates PDF reports on the instrument. One data set can be viewed three ways (SmartLink Mapper, Trace and Table) without switching applications.
