Overview

The VIAVI SmartClass Fiber OLTS-85/85P is a family of handheld optical loss test sets that combines fiber end-face inspection with Tier 1 fiber testing. The instruments measure optical loss and length on two fibers at two wavelengths, check polarity, and inspect both patch cord and bulkhead end faces.

An optical loss test set is a handheld field instrument used to test a fiber optic link or channel. While it can be used for basic troubleshooting, its primary use is during the installation of fiber optic networks to certify the installation against industry standards such as TIA 568.3, ISO 11801 and ISO 14763-3. These standards require measurement of length, optical loss and polarity, commonly referred to as Basic or Tier 1 Fiber Certification.

The OLTS-85/85P is available in dedicated multimode, single-mode and quad versions. The OLTS-85P adds a patch cord microscope with automated pass/fail analysis to IEC 61300-3-35. Fiber end-face inspection with automated pass/fail analysis is supported on both the local and remote devices, and results from both ends are saved on the local unit.

The multimode light source is Encircled Flux compliant to TIA-526-14 and IEC 61280-4-1. Certification reports can be generated directly with FiberChekPRO reporting software, and the units also work with the J-Reporter, ReportPRO and SmartClass Fiber software packages.
