Overview

The VIAVI SmartClass Fiber OLP-82 and OLP-82P are handheld test tools for the installation and maintenance of single mode and multimode fiber optic networks. They combine pass/fail fiber end-face inspection and optical power measurement (OPM) in one device, and are part of the SmartClass Fiber family, which integrates fiber inspection, optical testing and pass/fail certification.

The OLP-82 inspects fiber end faces with an external P5000i digital analysis microscope connected over USB. The OLP-82P adds an integrated dual-magnification patch cord microscope (PCM), so both bulkhead and patch cord connectors can be inspected without changing tips. Automatic fiber-image centering positions the end-face image on the screen.

The power meter covers wavelengths from 780 to 1650 nm with multiple calibrated wavelengths, and supports dual-wavelength measurements at 850 and 1300 nm or 1310 and 1550 nm using saved reference levels. Inspection and test results are analyzed against IEC 61300-3-35 or user-defined acceptance criteria, each managed as a dedicated profile.

Data management

Up to 10,000 measurement results can be stored on the instrument and transferred to a PC over USB. FiberChekPRO PC software manages acceptance criteria and generates certification reports. The unit has a 3.5 in color touch screen and a rugged, weather-proof design, and can be used with a hands-free carrier that holds the microscope, visual fault locator and cleaning materials.
