Overview
The VIAVI Multiple Application Platform (MAP-300) is a third-generation optical test and measurement platform for the development and manufacturing of optical communications technology. It follows the original MAP system released in 2001 and replaces the MAP-200. It serves as the base for the VIAVI portfolio of optical test modules (cassettes) used in labs and production.
The MAP-300 is offered as the eight-slot MAP-380 and the three-slot MAP-330. Both are 3U chassis with a field-replaceable controller. They come in benchtop and rackmount versions, and the MAP-380 is also available as a reverse-rackmount (rear-module entry) unit. The MAP-330 rackmount is half 19-inch wide, so two units fit side by side. An optional 15.6-inch touchscreen can be docked to the MAP-330 benchtop chassis to make a self-contained system.
User interface
Each controller has a 3.5-inch local touchscreen for connection, network and system settings. An HTML-based GUI, reached locally or through a web browser over Ethernet, supports several users at once. Its dashboard shows one widget per slot, identifying the installed cassette and giving access to its main settings.
Automation and compatibility
All module and platform commands follow the SCPI command language. Remote control is supported over TCP/IP (LXI) via Ethernet, GPIB and direct socket. IVI drivers are provided for LabVIEW, LabWindows, Visual C++ and Visual Basic, and include a simulation mode for offline development. The platform is backward compatible with MAP2xx series cassettes (all -C1, -C2 and -B1 modules) and their remote-control commands. The MAP Control Center (MAPcc) asset management tool lists the mainframes and cassettes on the network and can upgrade several mainframes at once.
