Overview
The VIAVI SmartClass OLA-54 is a handheld optical level attenuator designed for multimode fiber systems using 50/125 µm fiber. It is part of the VIAVI SmartClass family of optical handhelds, which are used to test optical signals and systems including broadband, PONs and Gigabit Ethernet.
The instrument has a table-adjustable wavelength range of 750 to 1350 nm in 1 nm increments, with calibrated wavelengths at 850 nm and 1300 nm. Attenuation is set continuously over the entire range using a wheel for manual setting, and the displayed value can be shown as an absolute or relative attenuation. The attenuator works bi-directionally.
The SmartClass optical handhelds share a graphical user interface, a power supply management system, a belt bag for hands-free operation and transport, and a shock-proof, splash-proof design for field use. Measurements are traceable to international standards, and the instruments need no warm-up time.
The OLA-54 runs on four AA dry batteries or NiMH rechargeable cells, with an integrated fast charging function, and can also be powered from an AC adapter or a 12 V car battery adapter. The optical interface accepts interchangeable adapters from the BN 2155/00.xx range.
