Overview

The VIAVI E81LRODM2-APC is the long range, APC-connector version of the Optical Dispersion Measurement (ODM) module in the 8100 Series. It is a compact field test module for the OneAdvisor 800 platform. It has a single test port and combines Chromatic Dispersion (CD), Polarization Mode Dispersion (PMD) and Attenuation Profile (AP) measurements.

Because all three tests run from one module, the fiber is connected once and there is no need to swap modules between tests. Network operators, fiber installers and dark fiber providers use it to characterize fiber systems, including CWDM/DWDM systems with ROADMs and high-speed networks at 10 Gbps, 40 Gbps and above.

CD is measured with a patented phase-shift method, and PMD is measured with the fixed analyzer method. The long range version acquires wavelengths from 1260 to 1640 nm. It works with either the E81BBS2A broadband source module or the SmartClass OBS-500/550 handheld broadband sources. The OBS-550 in High Dynamic mode extends the dynamic range.

The module supports solid-core single-mode fiber (SMF 9/125 µm) and hollow core fiber. Typical uses include baseline testing of amplified and non-amplified links, qualifying high-speed networks and data center interconnects, and certifying hollow core fiber.
