Overview
Sercalo's SW/SL devices are opto-mechanical MEMS switches for fiber optic communication systems and submodules. The switching mechanism uses an integrated silicon micromirror moved by an electrostatic actuator, giving a typical switching time of 0.5 ms and low insertion loss. The switches are qualified according to Telcordia GR 1221 and meet RoHS requirements 2015/863/EU.
Latching and momentary versions
The SL is the latching variant: a bistable suspension mechanism keeps the last selected state at power off. A high pulse on one of the selector pins toggles the switch into the cross or bar state. The SLTS is a latching version with an integrated capacitive state sensor that reads out the switch position for self-test and monitoring; its sensor output is LOW in the cross state and HIGH in the bar state.
The SW is the momentary (non-latching) type. With 0 V on the drive pin the switch is in its bar state; applying 5 V moves the micromirror out of the optical path into the cross state, and at power off the switch returns to the bar state. The manufacturer does not recommend the momentary type for new designs.
Configurations and packaging
The product line is offered in 1x2, 2x2, 1x4, 1x8 and 1x16 port configurations with single-mode, bend-insensitive or multimode fiber, loose-tube or bare-fiber pigtails and a choice of connectors. The packages are intended for direct mounting on printed circuit boards and are controlled with TTL or CMOS logic levels.
