Overview
The NPOL is the NoTail version of the In-line Polarizer (POL & NPOL), originally part of the General Photonics passive component line now offered by Luna. An in-line polarizer transmits only one linear polarization. It is designed for fiber optic networks and measurement applications, including polarization analysis, polarization monitoring and control, SNR monitoring, PMD monitoring and polarization interferometry.
The device integrates a high extinction ratio micro-polarizer in a rugged stainless steel package designed for optical performance and stability. It offers low insertion loss, low back reflection and a high extinction ratio. When combined with a polarization controller, the polarizer can act as a variable optical attenuator to adjust the optical power in the fiber.
NoTail package
The NoTail package has no external fiber pigtails, which eliminates polarization disturbances caused by pigtail movement. NoTail components are convenient for laboratory use and storage, and the NoTail 1 and 2-port components contain almost no internal fiber, which suits applications that need a short optical path length.
The manufacturer lists this product as discontinued.
