Overview
The NFRM is the NoTail version of the General Photonics Faraday rotator mirror (FRM), which is now part of the Luna passive component line. A Faraday rotator mirror is a fiber optic polarization rotation mirror for fiber optic networks and measurement applications. The state of polarization of the reflected light is rotated 90 degrees from that of the input light.
At any point along the fiber, the polarization states of the forward-going and reflected light are always orthogonal to each other, whatever the birefringence of the fiber. When used correctly, the device can therefore help remove polarization sensitivity from optical fiber systems. Applications include removing polarization-induced fluctuations in fiber interferometers, Brillouin amplifier systems, fiber laser systems and fiber optic antenna remoting systems.
The FRM's optical path contains no epoxy, which gives it low insertion loss and high temperature stability. The NoTail package has no external fiber pigtail. This removes unwanted optical path delay and the problems of handling pigtails, and it makes the device convenient for laboratory use and storage. The NFRM is offered for 1310 nm or 1550 nm with FC/PC or FC/APC connectors.
The manufacturer lists this product as discontinued.
