Overview

The NCIR is the NoTail version of the 3-Port Fiber Optic Circulator (CIR & NCIR) in the passive component line originally from General Photonics. A circulator separates light traveling in opposite directions along a fiber: it transmits signals from port 1 to port 2 and from port 2 to port 3, and blocks signals traveling in the opposite directions.

NoTail components have no external pigtails, which makes them convenient for laboratory use and storage. Removing the pigtails shortens the optical path delay and eliminates polarization fluctuations caused by pigtail movement. NoTail 3- and 4-port components have mounting magnets for setups on an optical table.

The NCIR is ordered in an SM in/out configuration or as a PM version with the fast axis blocked, for 1310 nm or 1550 nm operation with FC/PC or FC/APC connectors. Typical uses include add/drop filters, dispersion compensation, fiber sensors and bi-directional communication. The manufacturer lists this product as discontinued.
