Overview

Wireless Remote Tools is remote control software from Anritsu, available as a free download. It lets users monitor and control a range of Anritsu handheld RF instruments wirelessly. It is intended for situations where it is not practical to stay close to the instrument.

Wireless connection

The software communicates with the instrument over LAN, so the communication link can be set up in several ways. One of the simplest is a USB-powered Wi-Fi router attached to the instrument. This lets the operator control the instrument from a safe place. For example, the instrument can be on a tower top connected to a remote radio head while the operator stays on the ground. The Anritsu application note on configuring handheld instruments for wireless remote control describes how to set up the wireless connection.

Monitoring and control

Instruments can be monitored remotely. This is useful for long-term spectrum monitoring, especially when an issue is intermittent or its exact nature is unknown. The software also allows remote instrument control. Experienced users can make measurements, analyze signals and save trace data on the instrument while working at a distance from it.

Successor

For many instruments, Anritsu is replacing Wireless Remote Tools with Web Remote Tools. Web Remote Tools is an application on the instrument that allows remote control through a web browser.
