Overview

The Anritsu MX786201A Rapid Test Designer (RTD) is a software environment for testing and debugging mobile device signaling. It runs on a standard PC and works with Anritsu signaling testers (base station simulators). It is used by chipset developers, device manufacturers and network operators at every stage of device development.

RTD has three core functions. In custom test design, users build their own tests in a flowchart-based editor. In mobile network simulation, RTD configures one or more base station simulators and controls the messages exchanged with the device under test (DUT). In protocol analysis, users analyze test procedures and messages to find and fix protocol issues.

Test design

Users create tests by dragging and connecting signaling blocks to define the test flow. Parameters default to typical values and are changed in parameter dialog boxes. Example tests are supplied as standard. RTD offers two levels of protocol procedures. Layer 3 procedures configure layers 1 and 2 automatically. Low-level procedures give fine-grained control of layers 1 and 2 for testing a partial stack. Tests are interpreted, not compiled, so a modified test can run straight away.

Test execution and analysis

RTD runs single tests as well as automated regression campaigns. A remote control interface connects it to existing automated test environments, and it supports standard AT commands and custom interfaces for controlling the DUT. The protocol analyzer shows a message sequence that separates data messages from control messages. Logs can be exported to HTML.

Supported signaling testers

RTD works with the MD8430A (LTE/LTE-Advanced) and the MD8480C (WCDMA and GSM/(E)GPRS) signaling testers. The MD8475A can be added for TD-SCDMA support. Optional libraries add VoLTE-IMS testing with Radvision Prolab and eMBMS testing with an Expway BM-SC server.
