Overview
The ACCESS Master MT9085B-055 is a member of the Anritsu MT9085 series of compact handheld all-in-one fiber testers. It is an Enhanced (Performance class) model with single-mode OTDR wavelengths of 1310/1550 nm and 1650 nm. The 1650 nm wavelength uses a built-in filter, allowing maintenance testing of in-service live circuits.
The MT9085 series combines optical pulse testing (OTDR), optical power and loss measurement and, with an external fiberscope option, optical fiber end-face inspection in one unit. Applications range from installation and maintenance of trunk fibers in core, metro, mobile fronthaul and mobile backhaul networks to troubleshooting access networks, such as breaks in drop cables.
Operation
The instrument has an 8-inch color LCD touchscreen together with hard keys and a rotary knob carried over from previous ACCESS Master models. The Fiber Visualizer function displays events such as splices, connectors and splitters as schematic icons with loss and reflectance Pass/Fail results. Two realtime sweep modes, high-speed and high S/N, help locate fiber bends and check connections while monitoring the waveform.
Measurement functions
A stabilized light source and an optical power meter are built in and use the OTDR port. Separate-port power meter options enable optical loss testing (OLTS). Other options include a visual fault locator and the G0306C Video Inspection Probe for end-face inspection to IEC61300-3-35. An Optical Communications Check function detects live traffic on the fiber and stops OTDR measurement to avoid disturbing the circuit.
Data handling
Results can be saved as original data files (.sor, .vipi), .csv files, screen captures or PDF reports. Files can be transferred over USB memory, USB cable, or WLAN and Ethernet through USB adapters. Remote control is available through a web browser GUI or remote commands.
